LIHWAP stands for the Low Income Household Water Assistance Program.
LIHWAP is a federally funded program that offers a one-time payment to help you pay your past due water or wastewater bills.
LIHWAP helps pay overdue bills which accrued during any timeframe. There is no date restriction for when the overdue amount occurred.
LIHWAP residential water and wastewater benefits begin rolling out in June 2022.

In order for your household to receive a LIHWAP benefit, federal law
requires your water or sewer utility system to be signed up with the program. A
list of water systems currently enrolled can be found here: LIHWAP Water
Utility Enrollment Status.
If your water or wastewater utility has not enrolled in LIHWAP, ask them to sign-up!
All it takes for your water system to get started is a few minutes to fill out the LIHWAP Direct Pay Interest Form. Water systems can also learn more about LIHWAP and how to complete the direct pay enrollment process by visiting the LIHWAP Program Page.
Under federal rules, local water and wastewater utilties must enroll in LIHWAP for their customers to be eligible for LIHWAP financial assistance. A list of water and wastewater utilities currently enrolled in LIHWAP can be found here:

Note: If your water system has not yet enrolled in LIHWAP, it's not too late. Water and wastewater utilties can complete the LIHWAP Direct Pay Interest Form to enroll and ensure that LIHWAP financial assistance is available for their eligible customers.
